Hugo Winery – talks about the story of a special place, ennobled by 300 years of great history in Alba Carolina Fortres, a tribute to the nature and the sun, the immeasurable riches of the region that flows elegantly and discreetly in the aromas and flavor of wine.
Few know that the liqueur of the gods, fascinating and noble product, refreshing and sweet, lives unmoved in the catacombs of the city, for more than 70 years, in bottles that have the imprint of time that has passed over them.
The place I’m talking about hosts a wine bar with a collection of over 5000 bottles of wine from the former State Reserve, as you are rarely allowed to meet, from varieties specific to Romanian vineyards and beyond…
The HUGO wine bar is located in the catacombs of the Vauban Fortification, the White Carolina Fortress, the Bastion of the Trinitarians, in the southeast corner of the old fortress from the medieval era, built between 1715-1738. The catacombs are having in the inside wall elements from the 15th century Bălgrad fortress- XVI and stone blocks used in the construction of the Roman camp.
The place, unique in its kind, was born from the passion for wine, gastronomy and excellence. We invite you to become our guests to taste the best Romanian wines from all geographical areas of the country and to enjoy the best food.
The wine bar has a dining area for 18 people, a tasting room with a capacity of 18 seats, a wine bar with terrace, wine and delicacy store and of course a wine cellar with a storage space of approximately 58,000 bottles of wine. The location is located in the catacombs of the Citadel where the average annual temperature is 12.8 degrees Celsius with a humidity of 75-85%, natural ventilation and excellent conditions for storing wine.
